Research Associate X 2, - Ref:1399630 UCL Department / Division MRC Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology Grade 7 Hours Full Time Salary (inclusive of London allowance) £32,699 - £39,523 inclusive per annum Duties and Responsibilities The Mao lab studies the mechanics of tissue growth and regeneration, combining genetics, in vivo live imaging, automated image analysis, experimental biophysics and computational modelling. Current projects in the lab include interdisciplinary approaches to study how mechanical forces affect tissue growth, tissue architectural changes, cell shape changes during mitosis and tissue regeneration in the Drosophila wing disc. We are looking for an experienced developmental or cell biologist to study the mechanics of in vivo 3D tissue growth, using initially the Drosophila wing as a model system. Available from March 2014, one post is offered for a period of three years in the first instance and the other for one year in the first instance. Key Requirements Candidates should possess / or shortly be awarded a PhD degree in biology, biophysics, or a related biological sciences discipline. A strong background in advanced live imaging, cell / tissue mechanics, quantitative image analysis, molecular and cell biology are required. Experience with Drosophila genetics, tissue mechanical measurements and tissue manipulation techniques are advantageous.
