Postdoctoral positions are available starting January 2014 in the Cell Growth and Division laboratory at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB), Bordeaux, France. The team use interdisciplinary techniques including state-of-the-art imaging, modeling and biochemistry to understand how cell growth is coordinated with cell cycle progression, a central problem in cell biology (McCusker & Kellogg Curr. Opin. Cell Biol. 2012). The team recently uncovered a novel mechanism by which a robust polarity axis is established during the cell cycle (Jose et al. J. Cell Biol. 2013). The projects will explore how membrane trafficking dynamics and Rho GTPase activity are modulated during the cell cycle (McCusker et al. Nat. Cell Biol. 2007; McCusker et al. Mol. Biol. Cell 2012). Since one project will involve high spatial and temporal resolution imaging, experience in biophysics and/or cell biology would be ideal. The second project will involve the biochemical investigation of Rho GTPase regulation, requiring expertise in biochemistry; however, the demonstration of other relevant skills will be welcomed. IECB is a dynamic research institute housing 16 teams with expertise in the field of membrane/lipid biology, cell biology and chemistry, with which the candidate will have the opportunity to interact. The Cell Growth and Division laboratory has access to the technology platforms available at the University of Bordeaux, including cutting-edge imaging facilities. Candidates interested in applying for the position should send a short cover letter outlining their research interests and a cv to the email address below. Candidates should also arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent to Dr. Derek McCusker: growthanddivision2013@gmail.com See also: http://www.iecb.u-bordeaux.fr/teams/MCCUSKER/McCuskerlab/Welcome.html
