Post-doctoral position in Molecular Cell biology

The Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) is a private law Foundation, created with special Government Law no. 269 of September 30th 2003, with the objective of promoting Italy's technological development and higher education in science and technology. Research at IIT is carried out in highly innovative scientific fields with state-of-the-art technology.
A post-doctoral position in Structural Biophysics is currently available at the Drug Discovery and Development (D3) department of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genoa.
The D3 Department is dedicated to the discovery of innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need – chronic pain, inflammation and Alzheimer’s disease.
The successful candidate will play a significant role in our drug discovery projects through the investigation of the structure-function relationships of proteins belonging to pathways relevant to specific diseases using a combination of molecular biology, cell biology, and biophysical techniques. The main aim of the project is the analysis of disease-related protein interaction networks and the identification of potential network failures, which may lead to pathology. The final goal is to identify and help the design of specific small-molecule inhibitors able to prevent pathological functions of target proteins.
Eligible candidates should have a Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry or closely related fields, excellent communication skills in English as well as marked enthusiasm for research and creativity.
Qualifications:

• extensive hands-on research experience in recombinant DNA and cell culture;
• expertise in recombinant proteins production and protein purification;
• basic knowledge of biophysical techniques for protein characterization (NMR, SPR, ITC, etc.) is an advantage;
• bility to work as part of a multidisciplinary team of biologists, chemists and pharmacologists.
