The candidate should have a solid background in cell biology and imaging. A background in molecular biology and biochemistry would be a plus. The candidate should show strong interest in cell division, cytoskeleton, and cell cycle regulation. The project is to be developed in the Cell Biology Department of the Institut Curie in Paris, in the group of Anne Paoletti working on mitosis, cytokinesis and cell size control. The position has 2 years of initial funding. The Institut Curie is a world class multidisciplinary cancer research center combining research in cell and developmental biology, genetics, soft matter physics, organic and medicinal chemistry. Assistant Professor Position

Molecular or Cellular Systems Biology University of Tennessee, Knoxville The Department of Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of molecular and cellular systems biology. Systems biology seeks to understand and predict how molecules and cells interact and communicate to give rise to emergent properties and behaviors of biological systems. We seek applicants whose research interests lie in understanding central biological phenomena by analyzing multi-dimensional, or large-scale experimental data within a quantitative framework. Ideal candidates will integrate experimentation with biomolecules, genomes, cells, or organisms with a tailored computational approach, such as bioinformatics, in the case of an omic-centered program, and/or mathematical modeling. The successful candidate should address questions that complement existing strengths in the department (cellular and developmental biology, plant and microbial biology, structural biology, neurobiology; see http://bcmb.utk.edu/ for details). Postdoctoral position on Telomeres

A Postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Miguel Godinho Ferreira to study DNA damage responses at telomeres in fission yeast. The laboratory is located at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência near Lisbon, Portugal. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in molecular biology and DNA damage responses willing to work in multidisciplinary environment that encompasses molecules, organism and disease. We are funded by Howard Hughes Medical Institute (USA) and the Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal). Based on previous work from our group (Carneiro et al. Nature 2010), we are unravelling the mechanisms preventing the recognition of telomeres as DNA double-strand breaks. We propose that epigenetic environment at telomeres represents the hallmark of chromosome ends that distinguishes them from deleterious DNA lesions. To gain insights into the existence of such “chromatin privileged regions”, we are studying histone modifications both on nuclease induced DSBs and telomeres. The Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (http://www.igc.pt) is the Portuguese flagship of biomedical research. English is the main language in the campus (all seminars and communications are in English) and we have a significant foreign scientific community (ca. 30% from 34 countries).
